Emergency Lighting

When is Emergency Lighting necessary?

As noted in HM Government publication Fire Safety Risk Assessment, emergency escape lighting system should normally cover the following:

  • Each exit door
  • Escape routes
  • Intersection of corridors
  • Outside each final exit and on external escape routes
  • Emergency escape signs
  • Stairways so that each flight receives adequate light
  • Changes in floor level
  • Windowless rooms and toilet accommodation exceeding 8 m²
  • Equipment which would need to be shut down in an emergency
  • Lifts
  • Areas in premises greater than 60 m²

It is not necessary to provide individual lights for each item above, but there should be a sufficient overall level of light to allow them to be visible and usable.

Maintaining your Emergency Lighting System

Reliable Emergency Lighting is key to creating a safe, efficient environment which clearly indicates the exits of a building and is compliant with regulations; especially for those unfamiliar to the building. This is when way-guidance equipment can be helpful, combining photo-luminescent sources, with clear signage and lighting. These systems require maintenance to remain in full working order. Fire Queen Limited carries out Emergency Lighting Services for a wide range of emergency lighting systems across the UK.  Our engineers are fully qualified technicians and carry a wide range of components to maintain your system at optimum level.
